The Silverpeaks is Dunedin's alpine hinterland. Dunedin is unusual in having such a rugged high-altitude area so close to the City. There are many good tracks in the Silverpeaks. People do get lost here and historically there's been the odd death by hypothermia, so you need to bring a minimum kit of alpine survival clothing every time you enter this area: woolly hat, warm leggings, thermal vest, a silver "crunchie wrapper" blanket perhaps and an efficient jacket.
