Getting There & Parking

From I-280, follow the Edgewood Road exit. The Edgewood Road exit is about 6 miles south of the exits for Highway 92. Follow Edgewood Road to the east (i.e. do not go under the freeway) down the hill about 3/4 of a mile. Take a left at Crestview Road and then an immediate left to reach the park. There is an official parking area now for the preserve which has about 20 spaces and a bathroom. Across the street, there's room for about 7 cars in the shade.

Route Finding

  • From the parking lot, follow the switchbacks of the Blue Oak Trail about .4 miles into the main area of the preserve.
  • Once you hit the main area of the preserve, you'll be on a paved trail. This is Hassler Trail.
  • You can either walk along the paved trail or through the center of the off-leash dog area.
  • Once you get to the top of the off-leash dog area (lots of nice big, shady trees up there), you can continue to the east (right) along the Hassler Loop Trail.
  • You'll head back to the parking lot on the Blue Oak Trail, which is another .4 miles.

Helpful Hints

In the summer, this loop trail can be hot, dusty and dry. Be sure to bring plenty of water, even though it's a short hike. And, if you're bringing your dog, have water and treats on hand.

Also, there is substance abuse rehab center near the parking area. It's not dangerous, and the folks in rehab do not interact with hikers.

Activities allowed

  • Hiking
  • Dogs off leash
