If you want to enjoy the wine country without the wineries, you can rent a canoe or a kayak from River's Edge Kayak & Canoe, in Healdsburg, California. It's a very laid-back operation, and, with the exception of the two-day trips, you won't be paddling with a guide. The Russian River is quite mellow, so you don't really need one.

Program Itinerary Description

Most trips start at Alexander Valley and stop at Memorial Bridge beach. This trip is easy-going, and you don't need a guide. You'll have transportation at the put in and the staff will pick up your boat when you finish.

Guide & Gear Overview

The canoes are the old-school, metal kind. They're very sturdy but you'll want to bring a pad for a longer trip. Kayaks are standard issue.

Program Details

• Price range: You can rent boats by the hour, half-day or day, ranging from $10/hour for a kayak to $80/day for a canoe or double kayak. You can also purchase packages ranging from $65-$150USD.

• Group size: It's up to you. You can go just with another paddling partner or with large groups.
