Sky Trailhead Hikes in Point Reyes

The Low Down

Point Reyes near the San Francisco Bay Area offers an amazing variety of hikes including those that start from or near the Sky Trailhead. The article below describes several challenging but rewarding hikes from this trailhead. These hikes give you excellent views of the ocean and some beach access.

Getting There

Point Reyes National Seashore is located north of San Francisco in California. There are several jumping off points for hikes in Point Reyes, but for all of these hikes, you'll be starting at the Randall Trailhead.

If coming from San Francisco, take Highway 101 north over the Golden Gate Bridge. Follow 101N until you hit Greenbrae. You'll see the Sir Francis Drake exit. Follow that west until you hit the town of Olema, where you'll hit the junction with Highway 1. Go right on Hwy 1 for about a few hundred yards until you see Bear Valley Road. It comes up quickly so pay attention. Take a left on Bear Valley Road, following it past the visitor's center, about 2 miles. Then, take a left on Limantour Road, following that about 3 1/2 miles until you reach the Sky trailhead.

For a very scenic drive, you can take Highway 1 north. However, it's much longer, and, if you get dizzy easily, it's a winding road!

Sky to Mount Wittenberg Summit Loop - 4.6 miles

Sky-Laguna Loop - 6 miles

Sky to Ocean Loop - 10.7 miles

Helpful Hints

Point Reyes has very fickle weather. Wear layers to fend off the fog and to enjoy the warmth, whichever is thrown at you on hikes in this area. Also, depending on the level of the grasses, watch for ticks.
